Polda Metro Jaya Confident Richard Lee to Abroad After Pre-trial Complaint Rejected

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya issued a ban on suspect Doctor Richard Lee (DRL) not to travel abroad. This action was imposed to support the smooth process of investigating the alleged case of consumer protection violations.

Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, said that the detention of the suspect DRL was in effect since February 10, 2026 and would last for the next 20 days. The detention was carried out to ensure that the suspect remained in the Indonesian legal territory during the investigation process.

"Investigators have issued preventive and countermeasures (cekal) against the suspects since February 10, 2026 for 20 days," he said, Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

Budi said that the issuance of the check was carried out in line with the decision of the South Jakarta District Court (PN Jaksel) which rejected all pretrial lawsuits filed by DRL. With this decision, the investigation process which had been temporarily stopped is now resumed by investigators from the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya.

"The period of determination can be extended if the investigator still needs the presence of the suspect in the next legal process," he said.

Budi emphasized that investigators continued to complete the case file and collect additional evidence to strengthen the handling of the case of alleged consumer protection violations that ensnared DRL.

In addition, the police have also prepared a summons for the suspects. However, his party has not been able to disclose the time for the next examination of Richard Lee.

"The steps of the investigators after respecting this pretrial ruling is to schedule the summoning of the suspect DRL next week for the continuation of the investigation process," he explained.

The South Jakarta District Court previously rejected the pretrial lawsuit filed by Doctor Richard Lee regarding the legality of his designation as a suspect in the case of alleged consumer protection violations in beauty products and services. The trial was held in the absence of Richard Lee due to illness and was only represented by a lawyer.

Presiding Judge Esthar Oktavi stated that the pretrial application was rejected and the case could continue in accordance with the law. Thus, investigators are invited to continue the legal process which had been temporarily stopped during the pretrial.

Doctor Richard Lee was named a suspect by the Polda Metro Jaya on December 15, 2025.
