West Sumatra Rehabilitates the Anai Valley River Border to Restore Ecological Functions

JAKARTA - The West Sumatra Provincial Government (Sumbar) is projecting the rehabilitation of river borders within the Anai Valley area, Tanah Datar Regency to restore the ecological function of the land.

"Later, after the order, we will immediately transform the area into a river border rehabilitation area to restore the ecological function of the land that has been illegally occupied," said Regional Secretary of West Sumatra Province Arry Yuswandi in Padang City, Wednesday, February 11, reported by ANTARA.

The West Sumatra Provincial Government together with related agencies has scheduled the execution of a number of objects in the form of unauthorized buildings that stand around the Anai Valley area which is a Mega Mendung natural tourist park on February 16, 2026.

This rehabilitation program will be carried out by the Provincial Forestry Service of West Sumatra together with related institutions, including the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), the River Basin Agency (BWS) of Sumatra V and the West Sumatra Environment Service.

This step includes planting protective trees and rearranging the river landscape to prevent the risk of river flooding disasters, as well as maintaining the sustainability of the Anai Valley area ecosystem.

Arry emphasized that the provincial government had also identified a number of buildings ranging from bath locations to restaurants that stood in the river border area without permission to be disciplined.

Assistant II of the West Sumatra Provincial Government Secretariat, Adib Alfikri, appealed to all business actors and people in the Anai Valley area to be cooperative, and comply with the rules for the use of space for mutual safety.

"We appeal to the public or business actors to cooperate to comply with the use of the Anai Valley area," he said.
