Prosecutor's And Rizieq Shihab's Appeal In The Case Of Violation Of Health Protocols

JAKARTA - The judges of the East Jakarta District Court have decided on sanctions for all cases of violating health protocols (prokes) with the defendant Rizieq Shihab and five former FPI officials.

However, the public prosecutor (JPU) was not satisfied with the verdict. Thus, it was decided to file an appeal. Likewise Rizieq Shihab who did the same thing.

The Public Prosecutor's appeal filed by the East Jakarta District Court, Alex Adam Fasial. It is said that the official appeal was made a day after the verdict was read.

"That's right, the prosecutor's team appealed all the judges' decisions. The appeal was filed on Friday, May 28," said Alex to VOI, Monday, May 31

Alex then detailed the three cases that the prosecutors compared. First, the case of prokes violation in Petamburan with the defendant Rizieq Shihab.

Then, with the defendants five former FPI officials namely, Haris Ubaidillah, Ahamd Sabri Lubis, Ali Alwi Alatas, Idrus Al-Habsyi, Maman Suryadi.

The last case was the prokes violation case that occurred in Megamendung with the defendant Rizieq Shihab.

"All cases of violation of the Prokes are appealed. Cases 221, 222, and 226," he said.

As if he didn't want to lose, Rizieq Shihab's lawyer, Aziz Yanuar, said he would also file an appeal. In fact, the reason is because the prosecutor's team has done it first.

"(Reason) Because they (prosecutors) appeal, we appeal too," said Aziz

However, when asked when Rizieq's team of lawyers would file an appeal, Aziz could not confirm it. He only said that in the near future he would file an appeal.

"God willing, immediately (appeal)," he said.

A day later after giving the statement, Aziz stated that his party would formally file an appeal on Wednesday, June 2.

"We will formally appeal tomorrow. We are doing this appeal because the public prosecutor declared an appeal first," said Aziz.

Aziz Yanuar said his client had actually received the judge's verdict in the Petamburan and Megamendung crowd cases.

"HRS and friends are actually tired of this process and have accepted yesterday's verdict with relief," said Aziz Yanuar.

The East Jakarta District Court Panel of Judges in a trial on 27 May sentenced Rizieq Shihab to eight months in prison for the crowding case in Petamburan. The verdict is lower than the prosecutor's demand for a sentence of two years in prison.

Furthermore, the East Jakarta District Court Panel of Judges sentenced Rizieq Shihab to a fine of Rp. 20 million for a crowd in Megamendung, lower than the prosecutor's demand for a sentence of 10 months in prison and a fine of Rp. 50 million.
