JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said the conditions for the increase in cases after Lebaran in 2021 were better than in 2020.

"The impact on the increase in cases caused in the two weeks after Eid this year is not as high as during Eid 2020. This is proof that the community and local governments have learned to adapt for one year," said Wiku in a Youtube video broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, 1 June.

Based on the data collected, the increase in cases in the week to two weeks after Eid in 2020 reached 65.5 percent. However, the increase in weekly cases after Eid 2021 was 56.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the increase in weekly deaths after Eid in 2020 was 66.34 percent. In contrast, the weekly death rate after Lebaran 2021 actually decreased by 3.52 percent.

The province with the highest increase in cases after Eid 2020 is Central Java with an increase of 368 percent. The province that experienced the highest increase in cases was also in Central Java, but only increased by 103.2 percent.

In addition, South Sulawesi and South Kalimantan, which last year were ranked 2nd and 3rd highest, are not even in the top 5 this year.

"From the development at the provincial level, it can also be seen that although there is still a significant increase. However, the percent increase this year is lower than last year," said Wiku.

"This is our capital going forward to be able to continue to be productive and safe from COVID-19 while in a pandemic condition," he continued.

However, Wiku asked that this data not be complacent. This is because the trend of increasing cases is still going on. "The choice is in our hands. If we continue to comply with health protocols and continue to improve testing and the quality of health snacks, then developments may remain stable," he added.
