The Number Of COVID-19 Patients In Riau Islands Soars To More Than 200 Percent

TANJUNGPINANG - The Task Force for Handling COVID-19 in the Riau Islands noted that in May cases exposed to the corona virus increased by more than 200 percent compared to the previous month.

The daily chairman of the Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Tengku Said Arif Fadillah, said the number of COVID-19 patients in the region during April 2021 reached 1,988 people, while a month later it increased to 4,636 people.

"Seven regencies and cities in Riau Islands are in orange zones," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 1.

Arif said the number of COVID-19 patients in Riau Islands today increased by 221 people, bringing the total number from the March 2020 pandemic to 17,047 people. The new COVID-19 patients spread to 46 people in Batam, 107 people in Tanjungpinang, nine in Karimun, 28 in Natuna, 26 in Bintan, and five in Lingga.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients reached 248 people, bringing the total to 13,922. They are Batam residents 67 people, Tanjungpinang 57 people, Karimun 51 people, Natuna 36 people, Bintan 21 people, and Lingga 16 people.

The number of patients who died increased by 11 people to 384 people. They are nine Batam residents, one Tanjungpinang, and one Natuna.

"The number of COVID-19 patients who died in two days increased sharply," said Arif.

Arif said the number of active COVID-19 cases in Riau Islands was 2,741 people. They are spread over 1,162 people in Batam, 459 people in Tanjungpinang, 370 people in Karimun, 266 people in Natuna, 244 people in Bintan, 98 people in Lingga, and 142 people in Anambas.

"We urge all elements of society to comply with health protocols and support the implementation of vaccinations," he appealed.
