JAKARTA - Hungarian Prime Minister (PM) Viktor Orban said he had scheduled himself to fly to the United States (US) in about two weeks to attend the first meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP) established by US President Donald Trump.

"In two weeks we will meet again in Washington, because the Peace Council [BoP], the peace body, will hold its first meeting," he said at a campaign event in the western Hungarian city of Szombathely on Saturday local time, quoted by AFP.

As one of Trump's closest allies in the European Union, the nationalist Orban signed the BoP charter or Peace Council on the sidelines of WEF 2026 in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Although it was initially formed to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, the BoP is considered by many parties to rival the United Nations (UN), which is likely not to expand its performance not only in Palestine.

In its terms, countries that want to join the BoP are required to pay around USD1 billion. This requirement triggered sharp criticism and the assumption that the BoP or Trump's Peace Council is like the UN Security Council version of "pay if you want to participate".
