Tighten Security, Ditjenpas Sends Thousands of High Risk Prisoners to Nusakambangan

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) has transferred more than 2,000 inmates in the high-risk category to Nusakambangan, including 200 inmates from a number of prisons and detention centers in Jakarta.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Corrections, Mashudi. He said this policy was carried out to tighten security and suppress the circulation of drugs and the use of illegal cellphones inside the prison.

"The total number of high-risk inmates who have been relocated until early February 2026 reached 2,189 people," he said in a statement, Saturday, February 7, 2026.

According to him, the policy of transferring convicts is a strategic step to create a more orderly and safe correctional environment.

He emphasized that the placement of inmates in Nusakambangan was not only repressive, but also aimed at strengthening the coaching process.

"Zero drugs is a death penalty as conveyed by the Minister of Imipas and the Prison Service, it must be a guideline that must be carried out," said Mashudi.

Mashudi hopes that this transfer can achieve two important goals, namely the detention center that was previously occupied can be as clean as possible from drugs, mobile phones, and kamtib disturbances (security and order).

"In addition, so that high-risk inmates who are transferred can change their behavior for the better because they receive the right level of training and security in Nusakambangan," he said.

Mashudi said that in the latest relocation process, there was one inmate from the Pekalongan Prison and 20 people from the Semarang Prison, Central Java.

Meanwhile, from Jakarta, a total of 200 inmates were relocated on Friday, February 6, 2026, consisting of 54 people from Cipinang Prison, 50 people from Cipinang Narcotics Prison, 52 people from Salemba Prison, 36 people from Cipinang Prison, and 28 people from Salemba Prison.

"This week, a total of 241 high-risk inmates have been transferred to Nusakambangan," he concluded.
