JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Gunung Sindur Police, Bogor Regency, West Java, arrested NW (25), a perpetrator of violent theft that resulted in the victim suffering permanent disability, after being on the run since 2024.

The head of the Gunung Sindur Police, Kompol Budi Santoso, said the suspect was secured without resistance on Thursday (5/2) evening.

The case began with a police report in November 2024 regarding a sadistic robbery that occurred to a woman with the initials M on Jalan Sumur Batu, Pabuaran Village, Gunung Sindur District, Bogor Regency.

Kompol Budi explained that the arrest of the suspect was the result of an intensive investigation conducted by his ranks since the incident took place.

"Alhamdulillah, after pursuing and deepening the case, our team managed to secure the suspect NW. This perpetrator is our target because his actions resulted in the victim suffering serious injuries to his hands due to a sharp weapon," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 6.

He explained that in carrying out his actions, the perpetrator followed the victim using a motorcycle in the early morning. When he was in a quiet location, the suspect grabbed the victim and immediately attacked with a sharp weapon to paralyze the victim.

After the victim was helpless, the perpetrator took away the victim's cellphone and fled the scene. The proceeds from the crime were then sold by the perpetrator.

"As a result of the incident, the victim suffered permanent injuries. The suspect fled for quite some time until we finally managed to arrest him," he said.

Currently, investigators are still conducting an in-depth investigation to complete the case file and trace other evidence used in the act of violent theft.

"Our suspect is entangled with Article 365 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with violence. We are committed to taking firm action against all forms of street crime in order to maintain public safety," said the Police Chief.

The suspect is currently being held at the Gunung Sindur Police cell to account for his actions in accordance with applicable laws.
