JAKARTA - Constitutional Court (MK) Chairman Suhartoyo revealed his hopes for Adies Kadir who on Thursday, February 5, had taken the oath of office as a constitutional judge of the Constitutional Court in front of President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta.
According to Suhartoyo, a constitutional judge must be independent and not affiliated with any political group.
"MK judges and judges in general must be independent, independent, no longer affiliated anywhere, (except, red.) to the constitution, law, and justice," said Suhartoyo when answering a journalist's question when he was met at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, quoted by Antara Thursday, February 5.
On the same occasion, Suhartoyo then revealed his belief that every constitutional judge always maintains his integrity.
"I think in general that the MK judges always maintain integrity. I think not (only, ed.) the new one, (judge, ed.) the old one is always consistent like that, let alone (judge, ed.) the new one," said the Constitutional Court Chairman.
However, if there is any doubt about the independence of Adies Kadir, who has a history as a politician and party cadre, Suhartoyo said there is a mechanism to resolve the issue, one of which is through the Constitutional Court Honor Assembly (MKMK).
"(If there is doubt about the independence of the judge, red.), later we will decide it in the judge's meeting, or yes, maybe also from the MKMK will also remind, (depending on, red.) to what extent the objection is relevant," said Suhartoyo.
At the State Palace, Thursday, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo and Constitutional Judge Saldi Isra attended the oath-taking ceremony by Adies Kadir as the new constitutional judge in front of President Prabowo.
After the procession, Adies Kadir, when answering a reporter's question, stated that he would not be involved in handling cases related to the Golkar Party to prevent potential conflicts of interest in line with his duties as a constitutional judge.
"Of course, if in the Constitutional Court there are rules, yes. If it is related to being considered to have a conflict of interest, the judge will automatically resign from the panel or the panel," said Adies when answering a journalist's question.
"Yes, it is possible that I will also take such a step if there are cases related to the Golkar Party," continued Adies.
