On Wednesday, Rupiah Was Stagnant At Rp15,080 Per US Dollar

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on trade today closed stagnant in front of the United States dollar (US). The rupiah closed at Rp 15,080 per US dollar Wednesday, or the same as yesterday's position.

Meanwhile, the rupiah in the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) BI was at Rp 15,127 per US dollar (US), a decrease of 0.15% from the previous day at Rp 15,104 per US dollar.

Head of Research at Monex Investindo Futures Ariston Tjendra said the market was still worried about an increase in the COVID-19 outbreak after easing the lockdown. Besides that, the tension between the US and China is also a concern for the market because it could trigger a new trade war.

Meanwhile, positive sentiment came from the rebound in the WTI crude oil price which was already above 20 US dollars because production cuts had begun and this is an early indication of recovery in demand.

However, this positive sentiment could not lift the rupiah this afternoon. In the Asian region, the majority of currencies weakened against the US dollar. The Chinese yuan took the lead with a fall of 0.46 percent.

Followed by the Malaysian ringgit which fell 0.31 percent, the Taiwan dollar and the Singapore dollar both fell 0.24 percent.

The South Korean won, Indian rupee and Thai baht were compact down 0.17 percent.
