JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government opens the opportunity to continue weather modification operations (OMC) if the potential for extreme weather is still lurking in Jakarta. Evaluation of the implementation of OMC is carried out periodically by referring to the latest data and forecasts from the BMKG.

The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, said that the DKI Provincial Government would continue to monitor weather developments before deciding on further steps in response to weather dynamics and flood control needs in Jakarta.

"If BMKG still predicts the potential for extreme weather to continue in February, the OMC will likely be extended again as needed. We are ready for rapid adaptation for flood control and the safety of residents," Chico told reporters, Wednesday, February 4.

Currently, OMC has been extended several times as a mitigation measure in the face of extreme rain that triggers floods in several areas of Jakarta. This policy was taken following the high intensity of rain in recent weeks.

In its operation, OMC is carried out through the sowing of salt and calcium oxide (CaO) using aircraft operating from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. This implementation involves cooperation between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, BNPB, the Indonesian Air Force, and the BMKG.

"Most recently, the implementation of OMC was carried out until early February 2026, including the period from January 30 to February 4 or even until February 5-6 depending on the evaluation, with the sowing of salt and CaO using aircraft from Halim Perdanakusuma," said Chico.

The decision to extend the OMC, said Chico, was based on the latest data from the BMKG which still showed the potential for heavy rain in the Jakarta area and its surroundings. Further evaluation will determine whether the operation needs to be extended again in the near future.

Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) last conducted an OMC on Tuesday, February 3, OMC through three sorties using the CASA 212-200 TNI Air Force A-2105 aircraft based at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base.

Meanwhile, on Monday, February 2, 2026, OMC was carried out with four flight sorties and continued to pay attention to weather conditions and field evaluation results.

Previously on Sunday, February 1, OMC was carried out with four flights using the Casa 212-200 A-2105 aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force. The operation is focused on areas that have the potential to be the location of rain cloud growth, both in waters and on land.
