M 3.7 Earthquake Shakes West Lampung, Residents Panic for a Moment

BANDAR LAMUNG - A magnitude 3.7 earthquake shook the West Lampung area, Tuesday, February 3. The earthquake tremors were felt by residents around 04.37 WIB.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the epicenter on land, about 34 kilometers northwest of Tanggamus, with a depth of only 4 kilometers. The shallow depth of the earthquake made the tremors quite felt on the surface.

A number of residents in West Lampung reported feeling tremors on a scale of II to III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI). Although there have been no reports of damage to buildings or infrastructure, many residents woke up from sleep and left their homes to ensure their safety.

BMKG urges the public to remain calm but alert to the possibility of aftershocks. Residents are also reminded not to easily believe in information that does not have a clear source and continue to follow official information from BMKG or related agencies.

"Stay calm, prepare for the steps to anticipate aftershocks, and make sure the information you receive comes from official sources," said BMKG.
