BOGOR - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that food and energy self-sufficiency is the main strategy in the transformation of the nation towards an independent, prosperous, and competitive Indonesia.
In his speech at the National Coordination Meeting of the Central and Regional Government of the Ministry of Home Affairs, President Prabowo conveyed the big direction of national development was not merely pursuing the status of a high-income country, but ensuring the improvement of the quality of life of all people.
"We don't dream of becoming a high income country, we don't dream of living like Norway or Canada. We just want all our people to live, their quality of life is good. That is, eating must be healthy enough, health must be guaranteed, children must go to school well. He has enough income," said the President as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 2.
According to him, the transformation of the nation is carried out through eight Astacita missions, 17 priority programs, and fast best results programs. All of these agendas, continued the President, are based on two main foundations, namely food and energy independence.
The President emphasized that food sovereignty is an absolute requirement for the independence and prosperity of the nation.
"If we want to be free, if we want to be prosperous, we must guarantee food production so that food can be enjoyed by all our people. Food self-sufficiency is a condition, it is the main pillar of the strategy," he explained.
Meanwhile, in the energy sector, President Prabowo said energy independence is an important pillar in maintaining the sustainability of development. The government also continues to encourage the optimization of national resources so that Indonesia is not dependent on outsiders.
"Energy self-sufficiency, must! Later there will be a group, what can it be? It can! We have calculated, but we have extraordinary advantages," said the President.
The President explained that food and energy independence was the key to correcting the national economic structure, including reversing the flow of money so that it was not concentrated in big cities or abroad.
"Energy self-sufficiency, food self-sufficiency, we just have to change the flow of money from the village to the city, to the capital and abroad. We have to stop and reverse, among others, by eating free nutritious food. Our children must eat enough," he said.
