Three Houses in Situbondo Collapsed Due to Rain and Strong Wind

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Situbondo Regency, East Java, recorded three houses collapsed due to extreme weather with strong winds accompanied by heavy rain and resulted in three people being injured.

The Coordinator of the Operation Control Center (Pusdalops) of the Situbondo BPBD, Puriyono, said that extreme weather with heavy rain and strong winds since Saturday (31/1) night and today resulted in three houses being collapsed.

"On Saturday (31/1), the houses of Minari and Junaida in Tenggir Village, Panji District, collapsed after they were previously hit by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds," he said in Situbondo, East Java, Sunday.

Puriyono said on Saturday (31/1) night at around 23.30 WIB two adjacent houses collapsed and fell on the owner of the house Junaida and her two children Rendy (15) and Nur Islamiya Putri (3) who were sleeping.

He said the mother and two children were injured in their bodies due to the collapse of the semi-permanent house.

"Mrs. Junaida suffered injuries to her head, chest and both legs were hit by the ruins of the building, while her two children were lightly injured, while Mrs. Minari was safe, because she was sleeping on the front porch of the house during the incident," said Puriyono.

On Sunday afternoon, he continued, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds also caused a resident's house in Kotakan Village, Situbondo District, to collapse in the back and kitchen.

"The back house or kitchen belonging to Busarti (59) collapsed after heavy rain and wind, the owner of the house was not injured, because at the time of the incident the owner was outside the house," said Puriyono.

He appealed to the public to continue to be alert to the potential for extreme weather, such as heavy rain and strong winds in the next few days.
