JAKARTA - The Head of the Koja Sector Police, Kompol Abdul Rasyid, has uncovered a fraud case by exchanging motorbikes for stones in the South Tugu area, Koja, North Jakarta.

The fraud victim with the initials T (18), was deceived after the suspects RP (56) and IAM (30) along with two other people, I and A, suggested that the victim would be immune after having the stones they brought.

"The method is a kind of hypnosis, I see. There are four perpetrators," Commissioner Rasyid was quoted as saying by Antara, Monday, May 31.

The chronology of the incident is that when the victim was riding a motorcycle, two vehicles belonging to the suspect were suddenly grabbed. Then after being trapped, the suspect pretended to ask for the address.

"So the perpetrator asked for the address. After (the victim) stopped, he was given a stone, the point being that after being used (the lure) would be immune," said Rasyid.

After being given a stone, the victim was asked by the suspect to walk a few steps forward without looking back.

At that time, the other two suspects, I and A, who are currently at large, took away a Beat type motorcycle with registration number B 3504 USS black belonging to the victim.

However, the victim immediately realized that his motorbike had been taken away when he had only walked about seven steps from the scene.

"When (the victim) was told (the perpetrator) to walk about seven steps, the victim was aware and as soon as he looked back, his motorbike (bicycle) had been taken away by the perpetrator," said Rasyid.

The victim, who became aware of it, shouted and chased the suspect so that local residents could hear him. The suspect RP who tried to escape was finally caught at the location, followed by the suspect IAM who was also arrested as a result of police development.

IAM's arrest was assisted by surveillance camera (CCTV) footage around the scene. The footage shows identical items belonging to the suspect.

Because of his actions, RP and IAM were charged with {original 378 of the Criminal Code on Fraud. Both of them are now languishing in the custody of the Koja Police to be held accountable for their actions.

According to Rasyid, based on the preliminary information from the suspect RP, there are certain criteria in selecting the victim, namely looking for a male victim, not a female.

"Maybe (because of) only knowledge, the woman did not enter (did not work). So she chose men as victims," said Rasyid.

"We apply article 378 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). (The penalty is) four years," said Rasyid.
