JAKARTA - The youth with the initials DK (20) who drove a Mitsubishi Pajero crashed into the Jambi Police fence on Sunday, January 18 in the early morning, is now undergoing a psychiatric examination by an integrated assessment team for 14 days at the Jambi Mental Hospital (RSJ).
"Investigators are still ensuring that the legal process continues and in the near future a suspect will be named, after getting the results of the psychiatric test," said Head of Public Relations of the Jambi Police, Kombes Pol Erlan Munaji, in Jambi Thursday, quoted by Antara.
However, according to him, the examination of the driver as a potential suspect cannot be carried out for the time being because the person concerned is currently undergoing psychiatric medical observation at RSJ Jambi.
Erlan also explained that this step was a follow-up to the recommendations of the Integrated Assessment Team (TAT) consisting of elements of BNNP, Prosecutor's Office, Police, and expert doctors. From the results of the assessment, the driver was recommended to undergo psychiatric observation to ensure his psychological condition.
"Based on the results of the Integrated Assessment Team, the person concerned is recommended to undergo psychiatric observation and currently the observation is carried out at Jambi RSJ for approximately 14 days, depending on the development of the person concerned," he said.
He explained that the observation had been running for three days, and investigators were still waiting for an official report from the Jambi RSJ doctor's team, which was planned to be delivered after the observation period was completed.
"Although the examination of the suspect has not been able to be carried out, the investigation process is still ongoing," he said.
He said the Jambi Police Traffic Directorate through the Gakkum Sub-Directorate used the scientific investigation method in uncovering the chronology of the accident.
"Where DK before hitting the Mapolda fence, he hit five other motorcycles before hitting the Polda fence at that time," he said.
Investigators use the traffic aaccident analysis (TAA) tool which is able to reconstruct the accident digitally. Through this technology, the series of events from the beginning to the end of the accident can be clearly depicted in the form of animation.
"With the TAA method, we can see scientifically how the accident occurred from the beginning to the end. This is an important part of the proof. In addition to focusing on the criminal aspect, the police are also encouraging a solution from a humanitarian perspective," he said.
He said mediation efforts between the victims who were hit by the driver's family were also facilitated to discuss the compensation process.
The police also emphasized that all processes in handling the case were carried out professionally, transparently, and prioritizing the principle of caution while waiting for the results of medical observation as an important part of the legal process.
