JAKARTA - The National Resilience Agency (Lemhannas) is still continuing to study the regional head election system (Pilkada), amid discussions on returning the election mechanism from direct to the regional representative council (DPRD).
Governor of Lemhannas Ace Hasan Syadzili said the study had been and would be directly submitted to the President. However, he emphasized that the study document was limited.
"We will give it directly to the President. It is confidential," said Ace Hasan when met at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, January 28.
Ace admitted that the study process is still ongoing until now. According to Ace, Lemhannas targets the study to be completed before the next election phase begins.
"Yes, we should be able to finish it," he said.
Ace explained that the study conducted by Lemhannas not only focused on direct or indirect Pilkada, but rather looked at the electoral system as a whole. The evaluation was carried out to assess the effectiveness of the election system that has been implemented.
In addition, the aspect of national resilience is also an important part of the study, especially related to the need for regional leadership that is able to provide optimal services to the community.
"The next thing is also seen in national resilience because we need leadership that can provide the best service to the community," said Ace.
Ace also emphasized that the electoral system that has been running for more than two decades needs to be evaluated periodically, in line with the changing social, political dynamics, and national challenges that Indonesia is facing today.
"So we want that any system that has been running for more than 25 years, we have to see how effective and quality the system is because it is in line with the dynamics that occur in the situation we are facing today," he added.
