INDRAMAYU - Flooding due to heavy rainfall that hit Indramayu Regency, West Java, submerged thousands of residents' homes in the city center area, Tuesday, January 26. Waterlogging in a number of residential areas still shows no signs of receding until Tuesday evening.

Based on data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Indramayu Regency, flooding occurred in most areas of Indramayu District and resulted in 11 villages and sub-districts being affected.

The affected areas include Pabean Udik Village, Karangmalang Village, Lemahmekar Village, Karang Song Village, Bojongsari Village, Lemah Abang Village, Teluk Agung Village, Kepandean Village, Singaraja Village, Karanganyar Village, Margadadi Village, and Pekandangan Jaya Village.

BPBD noted that the water level at the affected locations varied, ranging from 10 centimeters to 1 meter at several points. As a result of the flood, as many as 2,771 homes were reported to be submerged.

In addition to settlements, waterlogging also spread to a number of roads, educational facilities, public facilities, and rice fields in several areas.

In Pekandangan Jaya Village, flooding was recorded to inundate around 150 hectares of rice fields. This condition has the potential to cause crop failure if the flood does not immediately recede.

One resident of Margadadi Village, Ervin, admitted that he was worried because this year's flood was the worst in recent years. The high intensity of the rain made residents wary of the possibility of an increase in water discharge.

"I am obviously worried because it was not like this before. Last year was still safe, but this year the flood was quite high. The intensity was the worst this year," he explained.

Another resident of Margadadi Village, Cecep, said that some of his family members had previously fled to safer places. He chose to stay at home to guard the remaining goods.

"Actually my family has already fled. Only the fathers who are still there to guard, because there are still many goods in the house," said Cecep.

According to him, even though the water has not completely flooded the entire room, the puddle has submerged the bottom of the house and has the potential to damage the furniture.
