JAKARTA - The Immigration Office of Class I Non-TPI Central Jakarta has arrested five foreign nationals (WNA) from Nigeria who are suspected of committing online fraud in the form of "love scaming" and violating immigration.

"The arrest was carried out when officers carried out immigration surveillance activities and received information from the community regarding the presence of foreigners who were disturbing," said Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration DK Jakarta Pamuji Raharja in Jakarta, Tuesday.

According to him, the five foreign nationals secured by the Central Jakarta Immigration have the nationality of Nigeria with the initials CA (29), JCA (38), CFN (23), CCO (22) and CO (32). They are an international network.

The five foreign nationals were arrested at an apartment in the Kemayoran District, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, after receiving information from the community.

From the initial examination, said Pamuji, it was found that there were violations of immigration which were the existence of overstaying in Indonesia, and not being able to show valid travel documents or residence permits as required by immigration regulations.

The five foreign nationals who were arrested had carried out fraudulent activities with the "love scamming" modus through Facebook and other social media applications by wooing female victims from various countries including Sri Lanka, Jamaica, India and America.

"From the results of the fraud, they get around 400-500 US dollars per victim," he said.

For their actions, the five foreigners were charged with Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, namely deportation and inclusion in the exclusion list so that they cannot enter Indonesia again.

"We do not tolerate activities that violate the law and threaten public safety," said Pamuji.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Immigration Office Class I Non TPI Central Jakarta M. Iqbal Ma'ruf emphasized that he would apply immigration sanctions in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations and would continue to investigate the involvement of other foreign nationals.
