Confessing To Playing Alone, Stepanus 'Case Broker' KPK: I Won't Drag Other People

JAKARTA - Investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) who received bribes from the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, accepted the decision to dismiss him dishonorably.

This decision was read out in an ethics session held at the ACLC KPK Building, Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.

"I can accept it means that I am responsible for what I have done," Stepanus told reporters as he left the ACLC Building, Monday, May 31.

He admitted that he played alone in an effort to stop the investigation into the alleged corruption in Tanjungbalai City that ensnared M Syahrial. Stepanus ensured that he would not drag other parties into the bribery case.

"I am ready to take responsibility for all my actions and I will not drag anyone else," he said.

Furthermore, Stepanus apologized for the actions that caused him to be fired. "I apologize to the KPK institution, I apologize to my home institution the Police," he said.

As previously reported, the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) decided to dismiss its investigator from the police, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, with disrespect.

He is a suspect in receiving bribes from the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial to stop the case being investigated by the anti-corruption commission.

This decision was read out in the trial for the verdict on alleged violations which was held at the ACLC KPK Building, Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta after being formulated on Thursday, 27 May.

"Punishing the examinee with severe sanctions in the form of being dishonorably dismissed as an employee of the KPK," said Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, chairman of the KPK Supervisory Board, during the verdict hearing which was broadcast on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Monday, May 31.

He was found guilty of violating the code of ethics and code of conduct for KPK employees by dealing directly and indirectly with litigants. Not only that, he is considered to have abused his influence as an investigator for his personal interests and misused the identification of KPK employees.

In fact, this kind of thing is already prohibited in the Dewas Regulation No. 2 of 2020 concerning Enforcement of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

Furthermore, a member of the KPK Supervisory Board said there were a number of things that weighed on Stepanus so that he was dishonorably dismissed. In addition to being deemed to have abused his trust, he has also enjoyed money from receiving bribes worth Rp. 1.6 billion.

"The thing that is burdensome is that the examinee has enjoyed the results of his actions in the form of money in the amount of approximately Rp. 1,697,500,000. In addition, the examinee has abused the trust given by the head of the original agency as a civil servant employed by the KPK," said Albertina.

"There is no mitigating thing," he added.
