JAKARTA - The body of a woman was found in a state of decomposition in the Pesanggrahan River, Jalan Pilar Raya, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, today.

The body was first found by a cleaning staff named Feri Hartono when he was about to clean the river around 10.00 WIB.

"At first, only his legs were visible, his body was not visible," Feri said at the location, Antara, Sunday, November 25.

According to Ferry, the position of the body was between a pile of garbage that settled in the stream.

When first seen, the victim's body was covered with garbage, so only the feet were visible from the surface.

"So at first I saw his legs that were visible. His body was under the garbage," he said.

Suspicious and afraid, Ferry then called his colleagues to confirm his findings. After being confirmed as a human body, the discovery was immediately reported to his superiors and forwarded to the police.

"Yes, I was surprised too. I reported it to my friend, to the commander of the team. I was told to confirm it first. When my friend came, yes, he said it was a corpse, then reported it," said Feri.

When the initial identification was carried out by police officers, the condition of the body was bruised and still wearing complete clothes. The victim's face was difficult to recognize because it was swollen and turned blue.

Ferry suspected that the body had been in the river for several days because it smelled quite bad.

"It seems to have been a few days, because it already smells," he said.

He also said that the discovery of the body in the Pesanggrahan River was not the first time it had happened. During his work as a sanitation worker, he admitted that he had seen several human bodies floating.

"If it floats or what, yes, it is likely to float," he said.

In addition to evacuating the body, the police also arrested a man who claimed to be the victim's husband. The man was seen crying and calling several times to convey the sad news to the family.

After the body was put into an ambulance, the man was asked by the police to come along to be questioned further regarding the incident.
