JAKARTA - The search operation for victims of landslides in Pasir Langu Village, West Bandung Regency, West Java, entered the third day. Until this afternoon, the joint search and rescue (SAR) team is still conducting a search at the affected location with limited field conditions.

"Temporary data as of Sunday, January 25 at 12.00 WIB, the joint search and rescue (SAR) team managed to find nine dead victims," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Sunday, January 25.

"In addition to the deceased, 23 people were reported to be safe and 81 people have not been found, so the total number of victims affected is 113 people," said Abdul Muhari.
Of the nine dead victims who have been identified, five have been handed over to their families. The other four victims are still at the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Post for further processing.
"For the 9 dead victims who have been identified, 5 victims have been handed over to their families and 4 victims are still at the disaster victim identification (DVI) post," he explained.
In the search effort, the joint SAR team has deployed heavy equipment. However, the still unstable soil conditions are a major obstacle so that the search process must be carried out with extra caution to avoid further risks.
Until now, the West Bandung Regency BPBD together with cross-agency joint efforts are still conducting further data collection and monitoring at the affected locations, including searching for victims and data collection on homes of residents affected by landslides.
The landslide in Pasir Langu Village occurred after the West Bandung Regency area was hit by heavy rain in several days. The continuous rainfall caused the soil condition to be saturated with water, triggering soil movement in hilly and sloping areas that were previously also affected by flooding.
Before the landslide, a number of areas in West Bandung were reported to have experienced flooding due to overflowing rivers and drainage systems that were unable to accommodate the flow of rainwater. This condition exacerbates the stability of the slope and increases the risk of landslides, especially in residential areas that are under cliffs and steep slopes.
