Canada Prepares Defense Scenario to Face US Invasion

JAKARTA - Canada is preparing a national defense plan with a scenario of a US invasion of the country.

The move is the first of its kind for Canada in more than a century, where they have to design a defense plan to face the threat of neighboring countries in the south, wrote the daily The Globe and Mail.

The draft was prepared after US President Donald Trump broadcast a provocative image, which featured a map of Canada and Greenland covered with US flags, via the Truth social media on Tuesday.

According to federal officials reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Canada does not have enough military power to withstand a full-scale US attack. Therefore, the defense plan will rely on small cells of military personnel and ordinary citizens who will launch a non-conventional countermeasure.

The names of the officials in question were not mentioned because they were not authorized to discuss the plan.

In the defense scenario, the small groups would launch ambushes, drone attacks, and sabotage against US forces invading Canada.

The tactic is known to have been used by the Taliban in Afghanistan when they faced Russian forces decades ago, then against US and allied forces 20 years ago.

The official acknowledged that Canada would be overwhelmed by US forces at key points in just two days to a week.

Although the possibility of a US invasion of Canada is very low, the Canadian government is still preparing for the worst-case scenario if this happens.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of the Canadian Defense General Jennie Carignan said she plans to form a reserve volunteer force with up to 400,000 personnel.

Canadian officials have said they expect nuclear-armed countries, such as France and Britain, to come to Canada's aid if it were invaded.

Canada, France, and the UK, as well as the US, are all NATO members.

"If you attack Canada, you will face the entire world, even more than Greenland," Major General David Fraser, who led Canadian forces in Afghanistan, told the daily.

"People care about what's happening in Canada, unlike in Venezuela," he said, adding.

"You will actually see German ships and British planes in Canada to strengthen the sovereignty of this country," said Major General Fraser.
