JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) / Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) is reviewing environmental permits for companies in Sumatra to follow up on President Prabowo Subianto's decision to revoke the permits of 28 companies that were found to have violated the use of forest areas, causing floods and landslides.

"The evaluation that we have carried out certainly involves environmental experts to provide views related to activities that exacerbate the impact of disasters. Therefore, in accordance with our authority, the Ministry of Environment/BPLH supports and follows up on the President's decision by revoking environmental approval for 28 companies that have been announced," said Deputy Minister of LH Diaz Hendropriyono at a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 21, reported by ANTARA.

Since floods and landslides hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on November 25, 2025, the KLH has conducted intensive monitoring and studies to evaluate the suitability of environmental management with the commitments set out in the environmental agreement.

"The 28 companies that have had their permits revoked have been proven to have violated environmental management. A total of 22 companies are engaged in the use of forests, natural forests, and plantation forests, while the other six companies are in the fields of mining, plantations, and the use of timber forests," he said.

The Ministry of Environment is committed to carrying out environmental protection and management in accordance with the rules of legislation in order to protect the community and the environment towards a sustainable natural resource-based economy as stated in Article 28 H paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution.

In this article it is stated that the state guarantees the basic rights of every person to live a prosperous life, to have a place to live, to have a good and healthy living environment, and to have the right to receive health services.

He stated awareness of the possibility of a counter-suit from the 28 companies whose permits were revoked.

Therefore, KLH/BPLH continues to coordinate with the Attorney General's Office and the Forest Area Control Task Force (Satgas PKH) for follow-up steps.

"The company will sue back, I think it's possible, but we will also continue to coordinate with prosecutors, the government, and we will prepare everything. We are also still conducting studies and will send experts to the field," he said.
