JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung launched the 2026 Disabled-Friendly School Transportation service. This program is aimed at expanding transportation access for disabled learners in Jakarta.

Pramono said that the service is part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to provide inclusive public transportation, especially for children with special needs who have been facing limited access to schools.

"Today, the DKI Provincial Government is launching a disability-friendly school transportation again. We are launching 32 buses and adding five new routes," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, January 21.

He emphasized that education is the right of all children without exception. Therefore, the government has an obligation to ensure that every child can access education equally, including in terms of transportation facilities.

Through this service, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that children with disabilities can go to and return to school safely and comfortably, as well as supporting daily educational activities.

"Hopefully this bus fleet can provide convenience for children in going to and coming from school, as well as supporting daily activities related to their education," said Pramono.

In 2026, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government added 32 units of disability-friendly school buses consisting of 13 minibuses and 19 medium buses. With this addition, the total number of disability-friendly school bus fleets now amounts to 37 units serving ten routes in various regions of Jakarta.

"The addition of this fleet is a contribution from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to make Jakarta a disability-friendly city," said Pramono.

Pramono added that as a global city, Jakarta is required to provide equal space and access for people with disabilities, not only in the education sector, but also in other aspects such as employment.

He also expressed his appreciation to schools, teachers, students, and the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service which had prepared supporting services and facilities for disabled students. Pramono advised students to make the most of these facilities.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, explained that currently the School Transportation Management Unit (UPAS) manages 230 units of fleet consisting of 200 medium buses and 30 minibuses. The fleet serves 50 routes, including 32 regular routes and 18 zoning routes in five regions of DKI Jakarta.

School transportation services operate from 04.30 to 19.00 WIB and serve more than 41,000 students from elementary school to high school or equivalent.

"The addition of 32 units of disability-friendly school buses will strengthen the service through the addition of five new routes that have undergone operational trials, to reach five additional Special Schools in various regions of DKI Jakarta," said Syafrin.

Syafrin detailed, the five new routes include Regular Route 32 Yayasan Pendidikan Anak Cacat-Ciledug; Zoning Route 12 Rusun Rawabebek-Rorotan which serves SLB Karya Mulia; Zoning Route 16 BNN-Cipinang via Jatinegara which serves SLB Karya Guna; Zoning Route 17 Kampung Rambutan-Lebak Bulus which serves SLBN 01 Jakarta and SLBA Pembina National Level; and Zoning Route 19 Permata Hijau-Lebak Bulus which serves SLBN 01 Jakarta and SLBA Pembina National Level.

Each bus is equipped with a driver and a companion crew to help students get on and off the vehicle, including operating the lift chair. Medium buses have a capacity of four wheelchairs and nine passenger seats, while microbuses can accommodate two wheelchairs and seven passenger seats.
