JAKARTA - Basarnas Head Mohammad Syafii said that until now his party had not found the black box from the ATR 42-500 aircraft belonging to Indonesia Air Transport (IAT) which had an accident on Mount Bulusaraung, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi).
"We have not found any parts of the plane that are black boxes," Syafii said in a meeting with Commission V of the DPR, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 20.
The black box is a device that records flight data and cockpit sounds of the plane, which is crucial for accident investigations.
He said this in response to a question from the Chairman of Commission V of the DPR Lasarus during the meeting. Lasarus asked for clarity from Basarnas regarding the latest results of the ATR aircraft black box search.
"So the black box hasn't been found, sir?" asked Lasarus.
Syafii explained that his party had only found an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT). It is known that ELT is a device that sends emergency signals to satellites to help search teams find the location of the aircraft after an accident.
Previously, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub), Dudy Purwagandhi, stated that the ATR 42-500 aircraft was in a fit to fly condition.
"If it is fit to fly, yes. The main requirement is to be fit to fly. We have checked the legality of the documents owned by the aircraft, and the aircraft has been declared fit to fly," said Transportation Minister Dudy.
Regarding the issue of the plane allegedly having problems, the Minister of Transportation said he did not want to comment on it.
"I can't say that yet. We don't want to say too early what the cause of the accident is, like that," he said.
