JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming Raka reviewed the Cikurubuk Market as a parent market in Tasikmalaya City, West Java, Tuesday, January 20. The Vice President ensured price stability, and safe food supplies were available for community needs.
The Vice President's visit was in line with President Prabowo Subianto's direction for the central and regional governments to continue to maintain the affordability of food prices while strengthening the role of traditional markets as the backbone of the people's economy.
The Vice President visited a number of stalls selling food, fish, and household needs, and directly monitored the development of prices and availability of commodities, as well as holding dialogues with traders and the community.
Seeing the market conditions, the Vice President emphasized the importance of gradually improving market facilities and infrastructure, especially in terms of cleanliness, arrangement, and visitor comfort.
It is hoped that the Vice President can facilitate trade activities as well as increase public confidence to shop at traditional markets.
The Vice President also encouraged the strengthening of synergy between the central and regional governments in maintaining the smooth distribution of goods, ensuring adequate supply, and preventing hoarding of basic commodities that could potentially disrupt price stability.
The Vice President's visit was also enthusiastically welcomed by traders, one of whom was a vegetable trader at the Cikurubuk Market, Ela, who said he was grateful for the government's attention to traditional markets.
"Alhamdulillah, I am very happy and did not expect the Vice President to come and shop directly at our place. We as small citizens feel very cared for," said Ela.
Cikurubuk Market is the largest traditional market in the East Priangan region in West Java with around 5,000 traders who are active every day, and is a distribution center for food for Tasikmalaya and surrounding areas.
The Vice President on a working visit to Tasikmalaya City and Regency used a Bae RJ 85 aircraft from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta to Wiriadinata Air Force Base, Tasikmalaya at 07.45 WIB.
Upon arrival in Tasikmalaya, the Vice President immediately went to Cikurubuk Market to greet traders and directly absorb aspirations related to prices and distribution, as well as emphasizing the importance of the people's market as the main support for the economy of small communities in the midst of global pressure.
From the market, the Vice President continued his review to the Dr. Soekardjo Hospital, the main referral hospital in the East Priangan region. The next agenda was a visit to SMA Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya.
The main agenda during the visit, the Vice President visited the Cipasung Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), visited the residence of KH Deni Ramdani Sagara.
The Vice President witnessed the presentation of the students who displayed their works and innovations in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
The Vice President also reviewed the AI and robotics training facilities which are a tangible manifestation of the integration of Islamic values with technological progress. After the visit, the Vice President returned to Jakarta.
