JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) revealed that at least five bridges were broken and three bridges were damaged by the flood disaster that hit eight sub-districts in Probolinggo Regency, East Java.

"There are five broken bridges, namely in Beji Village, Banjarsari Village; then the bridge connecting Jangur Village to Sumberbendo Village, the connecting bridge between Brani Wetan Village to Sumbersecang Village, and the bridge in Mendek Kulon Village in Sumberkramat Village and Kalianan Village," said Head of the Probolinggo BPBD, Oemar Sjarief, when contacted, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

In addition to the broken bridge, continued doa, there was damage to the bridge at three points, namely the connection between Ambulu Village and Sumberbendo Village, the bridge connecting Satreyan Village to Sumbersecang Village, and the bridge in Betektaman Village due to flooding that hit Probolinggo on January 11, 16 and 17, 2026.

"The damage and the breaking of the bridge will certainly have a major impact on the mobility of residents and the distribution of logistics. We continue to coordinate with the technical regional apparatus for emergency handling and repair plans," he said.

He explained that no residents were isolated due to the broken bridge because there was still access to other villages, but the distance was quite far.

"We are still coordinating with the OPD and the village concerned for the construction and repair of which bridges should be prioritized, but the residents are also making temporary emergency bridges while waiting for the bridge to be repaired by the government," he said.

In addition to the bridge, BPBD also recorded damage to eight units in several disaster locations due to flooding and high river water discharge.

Extreme weather and strong winds also caused damage to educational facilities in the Sumberkare Village area, Wonomerto District, so that BPBD together with related institutions had carried out an initial assessment to ensure the safety of buildings and teaching and learning activities.

Based on data from the Probolinggo Regency BPBD, a number of disasters have occurred in various areas, ranging from landslides in Krucil District, floods in Sumberasih and Tongas Districts to floods in the western and eastern areas of Probolinggo Regency, and extreme weather also caused the collapse of a classroom at SDN Sumberkare 1 in Wonomerto District.

"I urge the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather. BPBD will continue to be on standby and be present with the community in the effort to handle and mitigate disasters," he said.
