JAKARTA - The Democratic Party faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD emphasized that the direction of industrial development in the Capital should not only rely on large companies and jumbo-scale investments. Small and medium industries (IKM) are asked to become a real part of the industrial chain designed in the DKI Jakarta Industrial Development Plan (RPIP) 2026-2046.
The Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Democratic Party DPD, Mujiyono, assessed that the priority industrial sector listed in the RPIP requires a broad supporting ecosystem. Starting from health equipment, electronics, environmentally friendly energy, to technology-based industries are considered to open up a large space for the involvement of local IKM.
"IKM should not only be mentioned in planning documents, but must be linked in a tangible way to large industries through targeted partnerships, local procurement, and coaching. Without it, industry growth will only be enjoyed by large players," Mujiyono told reporters, Monday, January 19.
According to him, without a clear design of connectivity, the ambitious target of the RPIP is at risk of giving birth to an unbalanced industrial structure. The industry grows, but local business actors find it difficult to rise in class and only become spectators in their own area.
Apart from siding with IKM, the Democrats also highlighted the commitment to green industry carried out in the RPIP. Mujiyono emphasized that the change in the direction of the Jakarta industry must not repeat the old pattern that sacrifices the environment and the health of residents.
"Green industry must be the standard of operation, not just a jargon. This is not only about the environment, but also about Jakarta's competitiveness in the eyes of global markets and investors who now demand higher sustainability standards," he said.
The Democratic-Perindo Party faction views RPIP as a derivative of the 2025-2045 RPJPD, marking a major change in the structure of the Jakarta industry. The contribution of the non-oil and gas processing industry to the GDP is projected to decline, but employment absorption and investment value will actually soar.
This condition shows that Jakarta is directed to become a center for the management, technology, and services of value-added industries, not a mass production area. However, this change is considered to be accompanied by consistent and measurable policies.
The Secretary of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD reminded that without the readiness of human resources, the surge in investment has the potential to have no significant impact on Jakarta residents. Education and vocational training of workers are said to be the key to ensuring that the benefits of the industry are truly felt locally.
He also emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government must strengthen supervision and open the implementation of RPIP transparently, so that industrial development does not only pursue investment figures, but also strengthens the local economy and maintains the sustainability of Jakarta as a global city.
"RPIP must ensure that investment, employment, and space arrangement go in step. If it is not supervised with strong governance and periodic reporting to the DPRD, RPIP will only be a weak ambitious document in implementation," he said.
