JAKARTA - Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Sunday announced a comprehensive ceasefire agreement and full integration between the Syrian government and the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces), which outlines comprehensive measures to restore state authority in the country's northeast.
According to the provisions published by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the agreement includes a provision for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire on all fronts and contact lines between government forces and the SDF, quoted from Anadolu (19/1).
This agreement will take effect simultaneously with the withdrawal of all military formations affiliated with the SDF to areas east of the Euphrates River as a preparatory step for redeployment.
Based on the agreement, the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be handed over entirely and immediately to the Syrian government, both administratively and militarily. This includes the transfer of all civilian institutions and facilities in both provinces.
The agreement stipulates that the staff in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be officially retained in the relevant Syrian state ministries, and the government will not take punitive measures against SDF personnel or members of the civilian administration in both provinces.
The agreement also stipulates the integration of all civil institutions in Hasakah Province into the Syrian state institutions and administrative structures.
As part of the deal, the Syrian government will take control of all borders and oil and gas fields in the region.
These locations will be secured by Syrian forces to ensure that revenues are returned to the country, according to SANA.
Separately, US envoy Tom Barrack welcomed the announcement of the deal.
"This agreement and ceasefire is a turning point, where former enemies embrace partnership rather than division," Barrack tweeted on the social media X, as reported by Anadolu.
Tom Barrack himself met with President al-Sharaa in Damascus on Sunday and SDF leader Ferhat Abdi Şahin a day earlier in Irbil, Iraq.
