JAKARTA - Students of the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Indonesia (Fasilkom UI) developed CardiWatch which is a special examination application for heart health and cardiovascular disease.
"With technology, everyone can participate in preventing, detecting, and increasing awareness of the importance of maintaining heart health," said Clouddian Fazalmuttaqin in a statement released by Antara, Sunday.
This application was developed by Fasilkom UI students, namely Clouddian Fazalmuttaqin, Nathasya Eliora Kristianti, Douglas Raevan Faisal, and Adam Maulana.
The application called CardiWatch is a low-cost application with a precautionary service. Initial screening based on photoplethysmograph (PPG) is used for heart rate monitoring, by observing changes in blood volume in blood vessels, and consultations about heart health and cardiovascular disease directly with a cardiologist.
The creation of this application started from the team's desire to be able to provide benefits to the community in the field of health technology by loading user-friendly technology, especially the general public.
In addition, the fact that heart disease is the number one cause of death in Indonesia, even in the world, is also the reason for making this application.
The main feature of this application is the Arrhythmia screening, which is a condition of disturbances in the heart rhythm. To be able to perform screening, users simply place one of their fingers on a smart device that has been installed in the CardiWatch application with the position covering the rear camera and flash.
After that, the results of the screening will be displayed to the user containing the beats per minutes (bpm) of the heart and the Arrhythmia indicator or not.
Thanks to this innovation, Clouddian and his team managed to secure their position as finalists at the Imagine Cup 2021 event organized by Microsoft. This competition engages young technology experts from all over the world to promote platform adaptation, expand market access and seek the best talent.
At the competition participants create new and innovative projects that highlight their talents and interests, and will have the opportunity to meet professionals, acquire new skills, win funding to maximize the implementation of their ideas, and receive mentorship from technology leaders.
Through several rounds of online and face-to-face competitions, participants competed for championship titles with cash prizes and mentoring programs.
Imagine Cup focuses on innovations that change the way people live, on solutions and apps that can save lives. This competition is a place for participants to develop effective answers to improve the lifestyles of people around the world, through the technological ideas they create.
"The achievements of our students show that teaching materials in college can provide solutions to problems in society," said the Acting Dean of Fasilkom UI, Dr. Peter Mursanto.
Petrus added that Fasilkom UI supports talented talents in technology to continue to innovate to answer problems that occur in society.
