Gerindra And PDIP Relations 'Heat Cool', Prabowo-Puan Can Lose

JAKARTA - The Gerindra Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) are re-knitting their relationship to form a coalition in the 2024 presidential election. Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto will be paired with PDIP DPP chairman Puan Maharani.

Political observer from Indonesia's Al Azhar University, Ujang Komarudin, believes that this pair can accept defeat in the 2024 presidential election, if the election takes place objectively.

"If the election is objective, they can lose too. For example, if the opponents are Anies and Khofifah, they can excel," Ujang told VOI, quoted on Sunday, May 30.

However, said Ujang, political dynamics will continue to change. Moreover, the 2024 election is still about three years away.

"Everything is still a possibility. The nature of the simulation is a new possibility, it may or may not, it is still moving towards 2024 later," he continued.

However, regarding the figure, Ujang believes that Puan Maharani will be forced by PDIP to become one of the candidates for both presidential and vice presidential candidates in 2024.

"I believe that Puan will be coerced and encouraged by either the presidential or vice presidential candidates. If the presidential candidate is too heavy, maybe the vice president only," said the director of Indonesia Political Review (IPR).

"The matter of who the partner is or carries himself depends on the political dynamics that will occur later," he added.

Alluding to the Prabowo-Puan duo to redeem the Batu Tulis agreement, Ujang said that the political tension between PDIP and Gerindra has always been up and down. So, it is not certain that in the 2024 presidential election, the Banteng party will team up with the Garuda party.

"Politics at this time is very pragmatic, depending on the political dynamics that occur. Not necessarily Prabowo is also paired with madam," he said.

"In politics, today you can join hands tomorrow to be opponents. Today opponents will join hands tomorrow. That's what happened with the PDIP-Gerindra in the past, it was hot and cold, up and down," said Ujang Komarudin.
