JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Kepulauan Tanimbar Police (Polres), Maluku, has named 11 suspects in two criminal cases arising from land conflicts between Arui Bab Village and Sangliat Krawain Village, Wertamrian District, Kepulauan Tanimbar Regency.
"The determination of the suspect was carried out after the investigators found sufficient evidence and met the criminal elements in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Iptu Bryantri Maulana, through his press statement, in Ambon, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.
The determination was announced at a press conference in the Criminal Investigation Room of the Tanimbar Islands Police, and was attended by the Public Relations Officer Iptu Olofianus Batlayeri.
The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit explained that both cases started from a land dispute between two villages that had not been completed, but then developed into a violent crime.
In the first case, investigators named six suspects with initials GB, SA, YB, EK, PL and AY. They are suspected of involvement in the misuse of firearms, sharp weapons, and persecution, with different roles ranging from guarding the border area to direct involvement at the site of the clash.
Meanwhile, the second case relates to the case of abuse which caused the victim to die. In this case, five people were named as suspects, namely MB, KM, KY, GB and BA. From the investigation it was found that one suspect was involved in both cases at once.
He said the suspects were suspected of coming to the scene in groups. Even so, the police stated that there were still other parties suspected of being involved, but they could not be named as suspects because the evidence had not been met.
Regarding the use of weapons, the Head of Criminal Investigation explained that the evidence was not a military weapon, but a tube weapon or the like. However, according to the rules, weapons with a caliber of more than 4.5 millimeters are still categorized as firearms so that their use without a permit is a violation of the law. The weapon is known to be a personal possession and some of them were brought in from outside the area through the sea route.
This land conflict was triggered by the dissatisfaction of one party after the implementation of land execution which had been carried out in accordance with the court's decision and secured by the Kepulauan Tanimbar Police.
"We appeal to the public to resolve problems wisely and with dignity, not with violence, let alone causing casualties," he said.
The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit hopes that the situation of kamtibmas in the two villages will remain conducive during the legal process, as well as a lesson that every action that violates the law has consequences.
