JAMBI - Rain has been pouring over the Jambi region for three days, causing flooding in East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi. As a result, as many as 10 high schools (SMA) were flooded. As a result, school activities were temporarily switched to online learning.
Acting Head of the Jambi Provincial Education Office M Umar, said that from the latest information, there were around nine to 10 high schools affected by the flood.
Water entered the classroom, so that learning activities at the location were not possible to be carried out normally.
"The Education Service has issued a circular to affected schools to study online temporarily, including schools that are potentially affected by floods," Umar told reporters, Tuesday, January 12.
Even though the flood flooded the building, Umar emphasized that there was no valuable school property that was damaged. However, the school was urged to save assets and equipment so that they could still be used after conditions returned to normal.
"Buildings and furniture are affected, but ICT equipment can still be saved by the principal and teachers. All efforts are being made so that learning does not stop," he added.
During the flood, schools adjust the learning method according to conditions. In areas that have not yet allowed online learning, students are given independent tasks by teachers to maintain learning continuity without burdening students.
The flood in East Tanjung Jabung is a reminder of the importance of school and educational facilities being prepared for extreme weather.
The Jambi Provincial Education Office continues to monitor developments and ensure that the learning process remains safe for students.
"We hope that the flood will soon recede, and the learning process can return to normal afterwards," he said.
