JAKARTA - Four fires hit residential areas on Jalan Cipinang Muara Pembinaan 1 and 2, Cipinang Muara Village, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta (Jaktim).
Head of Operations Section of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Abdul Wahid, said the fire burned four rented units and caused eight residents from four families to be affected.
"The burning object is a residential building which contains four units of contractors. All of them were affected by the fire," said Abdul when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta, Friday.
The fire was reported to the 112 emergency service at 10.31 WIB. The point of incident was around the East Canal Flood (BKT) Cipinang, near the Basura area.
Abdul said the fire was suspected to have come from an electrical short circuit. The building owner first saw smoke coming from one part of the house, while residents saw the fire quickly getting bigger and spreading to other rented units.
"It is suspected of being a short circuit. The chronology is that the owner saw the smoke was on, and the residents saw the fire was getting bigger," said Abdul.
The personnel of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Office immediately deployed three fire trucks as an initial deployment, then added the fleet to a total of 12 units with a strength of 60 personnel.
"A total of 12 units with 60 personnel were deployed to put out the fire," said Abdul.
Officers began extinguishing the fire at 10.37 WIB, and were able to localize the fire in less than 20 minutes.
"The fire was successfully localized at 10.54 WIB, and the cooling process was completed at around 11.15 WIB," said Abdul.
There were no casualties or injuries in the incident. However, this fire had a significant impact on the tenants who had to save themselves and lose their temporary homes.
A total of eight people from four families were forced to evacuate due to the damage to the rented building.
Until now, officers are still conducting data collection on material losses caused by the fire.
The condition of the rented building was known to have suffered heavy damage so that it could not be occupied again.
Abdul appealed to residents, especially residents of rented houses and hostels, to be more vigilant about electrical installations that are not up to standard.
"Fires in densely populated areas are generally caused by electrical short circuits. We remind you that the installation should be checked periodically," said Abdul.
The blackout took place safely and conducive with the support of residents around who also helped open access roads for the fire brigade.
