PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Class II Land Transportation Management Office (BPTD) summoned and examined officers who allegedly carried out illegal levies (pungli) against humanitarian volunteers who would send aid to Aceh at the Karya Jaya Terminal, Palembang.

Head of the South Sumatra Class II BPTD Nurhadi Unggul Wibowo said the inspection was carried out together with the Palembang City Transportation Service to clarify the incident that went viral on social media.

"I just communicated with the Head of the Palembang City Transportation Service this morning. We from BPTD and the Palembang City Police together summoned the officers to conduct a report of the examination (BAP)," he said as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 8.

He explained that the examination was carried out on officers from two institutions, namely BPTD South Sumatra and Palembang City Dishub, because in the video circulating on social media it appeared that officers from both parties were involved.

The summoning and examination process has been carried out since this morning at the South Sumatra BPTD Office as material to determine the next steps and processes.

"Starting this morning, the examination was at the BPTD Office. This is the basis for the next process," he explained.

Previously, information circulated on social media regarding the extortion experienced by a group of humanitarian volunteers from Banten who brought aid to disaster victims in Aceh. The group was allegedly asked for money of Rp. 100 thousand by an unnamed Dishub officer while passing through Palembang City, Wednesday (7/1).

The joint volunteer group from Fesbuk Banten News, Aksi Semangat Peduli, and Petualang Rescue departed from Serang City, Banten, to Aceh on Tuesday (6/1)

However, when passing in front of the Karya Jaya Terminal, Kertapati District, Palembang, the entourage's vehicle was stopped by an officer.

The driver of the vehicle, Rizki Nur Habibi, said the officers asked for the completeness of the vehicle documents. He admitted that he had shown the SIM and STNK, but the physical KIR documents were left behind. However, the volunteer party stated that they had shown proof of KIR through photos and video calls.

"We have explained everything, including the purpose of bringing humanitarian aid to Aceh, but it is still difficult," he said.
