JAKARTA - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) stated that the government is building 500 cattle farms to meet the needs of milk, one of which is for Free Nutritious Meals (MBG).
"The milk is indeed a lot, the needs are a lot, now it is being built, the government is now building 500 farms," said Deputy Head of BGN Nanik Sudaryati Deyang when reviewing the MBG distribution at SMK Negeri 1 Jakarta, Thursday, January 8, reported by ANTARA.
This was conveyed by Nanik in response to the scarcity of Ultra High Temperature (UHT) milk which has started to increase in the community. However, he emphasized that milk should be given using domestic products and not using imported products.
"For the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) not to use imported products, prioritize domestic products," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of BGN Dadan Hindayana asked SPPG not to force to provide milk in the MBG menu if there is no qualified local source.
During the review of SDN 01 Kalibaru, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Dadan said that his party had asked SPPG to prioritize the use of fresh products, including for milk products provided to MBG beneficiaries.
"For areas where there are cows, we allow them to give their milk, but for those who are far away and have no cows, I think there is no need to force them to use milk. It can be replaced with other calcium sources," said Dadan.
Dadan emphasized that BGN does not allow the use of imported products for the implementation of MBG, which targets pregnant and lactating mothers, toddlers, and schoolchildren.
