Commission I of the DPR encourages Komdigi to block Grok AI and X Platform that spreads pornographic content

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the DPR Syamsu Rizal encourages the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) to take firm steps by blocking Grok AI and the X social media platform used to produce and disseminate pornographic content.

According to him, Grok AI's ability to manipulate someone's image into obscene content is a serious and very worrying threat. Moreover, Syamsu Rizal assessed that, to date, Grok AI does not have an adequate content moderation system to prevent such abuse.

"So far we have seen that Grok AI on the X platform is used by users to turn someone's photo or image into obscene content. With a specific request, Grok AI can follow those instructions. This is clearly dangerous," said Syamsu Rizal in his statement, Thursday, January 8.

The PKB legislator from the South Sulawesi District emphasized that the misuse of artificial intelligence without strict supervision could have widespread impacts. Not only harming the individuals who are victims, Syamsu Rizal emphasized, the misuse of AI also damages the social and moral order of society.

"If Grok AI and the X platform are unable to control their system and continue to allow the production and dissemination of pornographic content, then Komdigi must be firm by blocking it," he said.

Syamsu Rizal said that the state has an obligation to protect its citizens from the negative impacts of digital technology, especially those related to exploitation, pornography, and privacy violations.

Members of the commission dealing with information assessed that allowing this kind of practice would set a bad precedent for the national digital ecosystem.

"This decisive step is important because if left unchecked, irresponsible use of AI will be very dangerous and damaging to the nation's morals," concluded Syamsu Rizal.

Komdigi previously stated that Grok AI and X would be subject to administrative sanctions up to termination of access if they did not comply and cooperate with the existing rules in Indonesia.

Director General of Digital Space Supervision Komdigi Alexander Sabar emphasized that the X platform as one of the Electronic System Operators (PSE) must comply with applicable laws and regulations in Indonesia.

According to Sabar, AI service providers and users who are proven to produce and/or disseminate pornographic content or manipulate personal images without rights can be subject to administrative and/or criminal sanctions in accordance with applicable laws.
