YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Police have confirmed that the phone terror experienced by Gadjah Mada University Professor Zainal Arifin Mochtar is a scam and not carried out by police officers.

Head of the Yogyakarta Police, Police Commissioner General Eva Guna Pandia, said the results of the check confirmed that the phone number used by the intimidator did not belong to a member of the Yogyakarta Police.

"After we checked, it turned out that their address was in Cirebon. So, it could be said that the person who called the professor was a fraud, a swindler," said Pandia, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 8.

Until now, Pandia said his party has not communicated directly with Prof. Zainal Arifin Mochtar or who is familiarly called Uceng regarding the phone terror.

However, the Yogyakarta Police stated that they would immediately coordinate with the person concerned to investigate the incident.

"While we have not communicated with Prof Uceng. Later we may communicate with him," he said.

Pandia added that the Yogyakarta Police would also follow up on the case because through the phone call the perpetrator allegedly claimed to be a member of the Police.

"Later we will immediately coordinate with Prof. Uceng of course, what is the problem, how is the phone, we will follow up later," he said.

Previously, on Friday (2/1), Zainal Arifin Mochtar uploaded on his Instagram account that he received an intimidating phone call from an unknown number that represented the police.

"I just got this phone call. He claimed to be from the Yogyakarta Police, asking me to immediately meet and bring my ID card, otherwise they would immediately make an arrest," wrote Zainal in his post.
