DENPASAR - The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) held a Ngeruak ceremony as a symbol of the continuation of the construction of the Singaraja-Mengwitani Shortcut.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster in a statement received in Denpasar, Wednesday, said this year they continued to point 9 and 10 or package one and two.
The shortcut road project connecting Buleleng Regency and Badung Regency can run through the cooperation of the Bali Provincial Government with the Ministry of Public Works, where since 2025 Governor Koster has asked for central support.
"The construction of this shortcut is very urgent, both for passenger and logistics transportation services, so I ask that the construction of points 9 and 10 can be continued immediately, and now it is underway," he said, Wednesday, January 7.
In the continuation of the Singaraja-Mengwitani Shortcut, the PU Ministry disbursed a temporary development budget for the Bali Provincial Government to contribute to land acquisition for up to 316 land plots worth Rp. 193 billion.
Previously, the construction of this shortcut road had been completed and used by the community at points 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (A, B, C, D, E), and 8, so after now starting point 9 and 10, there is hope that points 11 and 12 can also be worked on in 2027.
"Points 11, 12, 1, and 2 still have to continue, so I ask Minister PU to continue this development because the need is urgent to address passenger transportation services, logistics, and tourism," said Governor Koster.
The Bali Provincial Government considers the continuation of the Singaraja-Mengwitani Shortcut and a number of road infrastructure developments to be very important for the sustainability of Bali as a tourism destination and a world-class business center.
Tourism contributes 66 percent to Bali's economy, even in 2025, the number of foreign tourist visits reached 7.05 million.
According to the Governor of Bali, it is not appropriate if Bali is not helped in terms of fulfilling tourist support facilities, because Bali cannot work alone in maintaining the sustainability of tourism.
"The problem is, the region does not have a large enough budget to solve this congestion problem alone, if it is not immediately addressed, Bali can deteriorate its competitiveness because of the issue of congestion," said Koster.
Therefore, he thanked the Ministry of PU for its support and encouraged the acceleration of the development of this strategic infrastructure so that it can be more beneficial to the community.
Director of Road Development of the Directorate General of Road Construction of the Ministry of PU Asep Syarif Hidayat himself said that the construction of points 9 and 10 is 3.90 kilometers long, consisting of a road of 2.95 kilometers and a bridge of 942 meters.
"This project has a contract value of IDR 290.84 billion with a period of 750 calendar days, the work includes the construction of a road along 0.93 kilometers and three bridges with a total length of 593 meters, which is carried out by Waskita-Sinarbali KSO with funding from SBSN Fiscal Year 2025-2027," he said.
Meanwhile, the next one is for the construction of the Singaraja-Mengwitani Shortcut point 10 or package two with a contract value of Rp. 187 billion.
The PU Ministry considers the condition of the Singaraja-Mengwitani road itself to be high risk, with a fatality rate of 27 percent and recorded around 140 accidents per year and 16 deaths.
Through this geometric road improvement, travel time can be cut from 21.22 minutes to 8.61 minutes, the number of turns is drastically reduced, and the level of land is reduced to a maximum of 10 percent.
"The benefits are very significant, ranging from increased safety, travel efficiency, to reducing vehicle carbon emissions by about 10 percent," said Asep.
