Kompol Seala Syah Alam Receives Cum Laude Doctorate at UI

Kompol Seala Syah Alam who served as the Pesanggrahan Police Chief, South Jakarta, officially received a doctorate degree in the Doctoral Program in Strategic and Global Studies after being declared to have graduated with the predicate Cum Laude.

The open trial of the doctoral promotion was held at the Balai Sidang Universitas Indonesia (UI), Depok, on Monday, January 5, 2026.

In the open session, Kompol Seala Syah Alam presented a dissertation entitled "Institutional Isomorphism towards the Role of Community Policing in the Digital Era: Theoretical and Empirical Comparison of Indonesia, New Zealand, and Japan."

This research examines the institutional transformation of the police in facing the challenges of modern policing in the midst of digital technology development.

Kompol Seala emphasized that community policing is the strategic approach of the National Police in building public trust.

"The National Police does not stand outside the community, but is part of the community itself. Therefore, the presence of the National Police must be collaborative and adaptive to changes in time, especially in the digital era," said Kompol Seala in his dissertation presentation.

He also highlighted the importance of cross-sectoral synergy in maintaining security and order. According to him, global challenges require the National Police to continue to innovate by partnering with all elements of society, academics, and other stakeholders.

"Community policing is key to building sustainable security based on trust and public participation," he added.

This doctoral promotion trial was led by the Trial Chairman Prof. Dr. Drs. Supriatna, M.T, with the promoter Prof. Dr. Sudarsono Hardjosoekarto. Meanwhile, the co-promoters consist of Prof. Dr. Drs. Arthur Josias Simon Runturambi, M.Si and Dr. Chairul Muriman Setyabudi, M.P.

The examination board was also filled with a number of national academics and practitioners, including Prof. Yon Machmudi, S.S., Ph.D, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Surajaya, S.S., M.A, Muhammad Syaroni Rofii, S.H.I., M.A., Ph.D, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Badry, S.Fil., M.Hum, CertDA, and Inspector General of Police (Ret.) Dr. Benny Jozua Mamoto, S.H., M.Si.

The success of Kompol Seala Syah Alam in obtaining a doctorate degree with the predicate Cum Laude is expected to strengthen the contribution of the National Police in the development of community policing policies based on academic research. This achievement is also proof of the commitment of the National Police in improving the quality of human resources to respond to national and global security challenges in the digital era.
