JAKARTA - A joint SAR team is searching for a woman who was swept away by the Cimanuk River, in Karangpawitan District, Garut Regency, West Java, Monday, January 5.

Head of the Karangpawitan Police, AKBP Moh Duhri, said the victim's identity was not known. According to him, a witness reported that the woman allegedly jumped from above and was carried away by the Cimanuk River.

"The witness who was fishing in the river, suddenly from above came a woman who immediately jumped into the river," said Duhri, quoted by Antara.

He said the victim jumped into the river at around 08.00 WIB which made the local residents shocked and immediately provided assistance.

However, the efforts of the residents, he said, were rejected and the victim resisted, then continued to swim towards the middle of the river until he was swept away by the Cimanuk River.

Residents, he continued, then reported the incident to the police, and his ranks along with other institutions conducted a search by following the river.

"Following up on the report, Karangpawitan Police officers together with the SAR team and assisted by local residents immediately carried out search efforts around the scene of the incident," he said.

He said that until noon the officers had not managed to find the victim. Even so, his ranks would continue to search for victims in the large river in Garut.

"The search process for the victim is still being carried out by combing the Cimanuk River," he said.
