JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian revealed that his ministry is now focusing on accelerating the recovery of services at local government offices (Pemda) that were affected by disasters in Sumatra.
"For me, there are two things for recovery, namely when the government office runs normally, the second is the running economy which is marked by people's buying and selling activities. So it will accelerate the recovery of regional government services," he said in Tangerang, Banten Province, quoted by Antara, Saturday, January 3.
In an effort to accelerate the recovery of services at the local government office, his party deployed 1,138 Praja Institute of Internal Government (IPDN) personnel as disaster recovery acceleration assistance personnel.
The delivery of 1,138 IPDN personnel was gradual, where currently 413 personnel were sent to Medan and then 414 personnel were deployed to Aceh.
"For today 413 personnel, tomorrow 414 personnel will enter the second phase, then the third phase 179 personnel. And those who are already at the location are called the advance team, there are already 132 personnel, so a total of 11,138 personnel," he said.
He explained that thousands of IPDN personnel were assigned to help with post-disaster handling with a focus on areas that were considered to be the most severely affected, especially areas with ineffective government due to severe damage.
He stated that he had recorded 22 villages that were lost due to the disaster, with details of 13 villages in Aceh, eight villages in North Sumatra, and one village in West Sumatra.
In addition, it was recorded that 1,580 village offices in the three provinces were affected so that the village government could not function normally.
"Almost all affected areas are 52 areas. In the region and cities in three provinces in Aceh, 18 in North Sumatra and then three in West Sumatra, the fastest to recover and only three areas that are the main attention, namely Agam," he said.
He said that Aceh is currently the largest impact area, namely 1,455 village offices are affected, followed by North Sumatra with 93 village offices affected, and West Sumatra with 32 village offices.
He said that North Aceh and Aceh Tamiang were the areas with the most affected villages.
During the assignment, the IPDN soldiers and caregivers will carry out two main tasks, namely assisting in post-disaster cleaning activities in the affected areas.
In addition, they will support the recovery and reactivation of the government so that basic services to the community can resume.
"The second is to revive villages that are quite a lot more than 200, there are those who have not run Dukcapil, other public services must be able to be turned on, their target time is a month and this is included in our curriculum, we consider this as part of the real work of the lecture," he said.
