Ambassador Andri Hadi is determined to strengthen Asian cooperation with Europe, in line with his assignment as Governor of Indonesia to the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) Board of Governors.

Five years serving as the Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, Ambassador Andri, who was entrusted as Governor of Indonesia starting January 1, 2026, is determined to strengthen the role of ASEF as a strategic forum as well as to encourage cooperation and dialogue between people in Asia and Europe in various fields, especially youth, education, economy and sustainable development, public health, culture, and energy transition.

"Thank you to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sugiono, for the trust you have given me to carry out the mandate at ASEF. I will try to bring Indonesia's interests, especially in the fields of education, youth and green economy through Asia-European cooperation," said Ambassador Andri, launching the statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2/1).

As the Board of Governors, Ambassador Andri will play a role in reviewing and directing the strategy and policies of ASEF to remain in line with the principles and priorities of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). Asian-European cooperation is currently entering a new phase amid global geopolitical dynamics and the emergence of new strategic issues that are increasingly emerging in the region and will increasingly determine the world order, namely economic issues in climate change and green transition politics.

Ambassador Andri, who has been a diplomat for 38 years, was previously entrusted as the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore (2012-2016). He has experience in guiding Indonesian diplomacy in the I-EU CEPA trade negotiations, sustainable economy as well as youth and social cultural cooperation in Singapore. It is hoped that this will bring a perspective of the two regions to strengthen the role of ASEF as a strategic forum for cooperation and dialogue between Asian and European societies.

ASEF holds a strategic role, as a 2nd track diplomacy platform, which bridges people-to-people contacts through the exchange of ideas, scientific studies, and collaboration on climate change and green transition issues.

In addition, ASEF also pays attention to the development of the potential of the younger generation, digital transformation, demographic changes, and urbanization challenges. Therefore, Indonesia is one of the countries that are active and play a role as an agenda setter in ASEF.

The Board of Governors consists of 6 Ambassadors from the Asian region and 6 Ambassadors from the European region representing 53 partner countries. Ambassador Andri Hadi will replace Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Soemadi Brotodiningrat, who has served as Governor of Indonesia on the ASEF Board of Governors since 2009.

The assignment of Ambassador Andri Hadi marks the continuity of Indonesian diplomatic leadership in the strategic institution.
