JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated the revitalization of Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Barat in RW 06, Karet Tengsin Village, Central Jakarta, after there had been no improvements for 30 years.
The 400-meter-long neighborhood road with a width of 5.5 meters was previously severely damaged and potholed, and has been complained about by residents for decades as the main access for daily mobility.
Pramono said that the road was not touched for repairs for more than three decades not without reason. The authority to manage the area, which involves more than one service, has been a major obstacle so far.
"Why has this road never been built and maintained? Because there is indeed a pipe under this place. Then there is also overlapping authority between the Cemetery Service, Bina Marga, and others," said Pramono at the location, Monday, December 29.
The road that was inaugurated stands on land owned by the DKI Jakarta City Government's Parks and Forests Service. In the construction process, the DKI Provincial Government coordinated with PT Tirta Jaya, as the manager of the water pipe project that crosses the area.
"So, with the Mayor, after reporting to me to be decided to build this road, and thank God in no more than a month, the Road Construction Agency completed this road," he said.
Pramono assessed that the existence of the road has a strategic function because it is an access connecting to Jalan Mas Mansyur, one of the main roads in the area. In addition, this road is also used by educational activities around the location.
"This means that this is the main protocol road. Moreover, there are two schools, state elementary and junior high schools. I believe this will definitely bring benefits to the people here," said Pramono.
Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Road Development Service, Heru Suwondo, said that all road repair work was carried out without involving third parties as project implementers, so that no special budget was allocated.
The project was carried out directly by the Bina Marga Service officers. The construction and paving of the road began in November 2025 and was completed in December 2025.
"For the road, it happens to be done by our own troops, the Yellow Army. The materials we use are materials we have in our warehouses, that's what we use here. So it's not done by vendors, but it's done by our own task force," added Heru.
