Sudirman-Thamrin Road Closed for Vehicles at 18.00 at New Year's Eve

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office will implement traffic engineering during the 2026 New Year's Eve celebration which is packaged in the car free night concept along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo said the policy was prepared to accommodate community activities that would crowd the central city area during New Year's Eve.

"In the context of the New Year's Eve 2025-2026, we will carry out traffic engineering in the form of implementing a car-free night along Sudirman-Thamrin," Syafrin told reporters, Sunday, December 28.

Syafrin said that traffic closure would be carried out thoroughly on the main sections of the area. The new road will be reopened gradually after the situation is deemed safe.

"All vehicles will be closed from 18.00 WIB and then slowly opened at 01.00 WIB or situational to see the situation and conditions of residents in the Sudirman-Thamrin road areas," he said.

DKI's Dishub will also make adjustments to public transportation services, especially Transjakarta, because a number of points are the location of New Year's Eve activities. Where, there will be stage placement along Sudirman-Thamrin.

"In its implementation, there will be 31 Transjakarta routes that will later be adjusted, because at some points, for example at the Banteng Square, there are also stage activities there, then along Sudirman-Thamrin," explained Syafrin.

Meanwhile, the operating hours of the Jakarta MRT and LRT services have also been extended until the early hours of the morning to support community mobility. Especially on New Year's Eve, both modes will serve passengers until 01.00 WIB.

DKI's Dishub also prepared a number of alternative routes for vehicles that cannot pass through the closure area, both from the east, south, and north of Jakarta.

"We appeal to the public to use public transportation services when they will witness or attend the New Year's Eve celebration," said Syafrin.

In its implementation, DKI Dishub will deploy around 2,000 personnel and coordinate with the police to finalize traffic engineering.

"For the discussion of details, tomorrow Monday there will be discussions with friends of the Police regarding the finalization of this traffic engineering management," added Syafrin.
