JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in collaboration with the TNI, Polri, volunteers, and community organizations drilled 27 wells in Aceh Tamiang to ensure that the needs of clean water for people affected by floods and landslides in Aceh are met.
"In Aceh Tamiang, there are 27 well points that have been drilled to ensure the community's clean water needs while waiting for the restoration of the PDAM network," said Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disasters at BNPB, Abdul Muhari, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 23.
Abdul emphasized that the availability of clean water is one of the main priorities in the emergency transition phase towards recovery. In addition to Aceh Tamiang, well drilling is also in other affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, especially in temporary housing locations and points where the clean water network has not been restored.
"Not only in West Sumatra, Aceh, and North Sumatra, we are also building several drilling points that will later be able to guarantee the needs of the community, not only in temporary and permanent housing locations, but also in points where the PDAM network has not yet been restored," he explained.
BNPB noted that, to date, 498,447 people are still displaced due to flooding and landslides in three provinces. The central government together with local governments and all related elements continues to support the needs of food, non-food, and health, for residents affected by disasters.
Every day, 100 tons of logistical assistance are sent from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, to Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. As of December 22, 2025, 1,266 tons of assistance have been distributed to residents.
Abdul also said that the cleaning of the affected areas, including in Aceh Tamiang, was still being carried out intensively by deploying personnel and heavy equipment to the maximum.
"At some points, TNI and Polri personnel work up to 18-20 hours per day to accelerate recovery and revive people's economic activities," he said.
