TNI's Heroic Action Intervenes Pregnant Woman to Safely Give Birth in the Middle of a Flood

ACEH TAMIANG - TNI soldiers from the 111 Karma Bhakti Infantry Battalion evacuated a pregnant woman who was about to give birth in the middle of a flash flood that hit Aceh Tamiang Regency at the end of November 2025. The evacuation was carried out in extreme conditions with water levels reaching about five meters.

The incident occurred on November 26, 2025 when a flash flood quickly submerged the area around the A Rifle Company. In the emergency situation, there were three pregnant women who had to be evacuated immediately, one of them was the wife of a TNI soldier who had entered the estimated birth day.

The commander of the A Rifle Company of the 111th Infantry Battalion Karma Bhakti, Captain of the Infantry Riosi Supajaya Pratama, said that the limited evacuation facilities forced the soldiers to take emergency steps. When the water continued to rise to the roof of the building, the team decided to make a raft from the fronds and stems of bananas around the location.

"We took the initiative to make a raft from a banana tree. We brought the woman down from the second floor of the shop where she was evacuated to the raft. About 10 members escorted and pushed the raft against the very strong current," said Captain Riosi, Tuesday, December 23.

He explained that the flood flow was very fast, especially around the area of the regional government's office, where many houses and vehicles were swept away. The journey to the village midwife, which is usually short, must be taken for more than three hours. However, upon arrival at the location, the medical facilities were deemed inadequate for the delivery process.

The soldiers then continued the evacuation for about eight kilometers to the Aceh Tamiang Regional Hospital. However, the hospital was also affected by the flood and did not have medical personnel who could handle childbirth, while the pregnant mother had entered the third opening and had a severe contraction.

"We took the risky decision to bring the mother to Pangkalan Brandan, North Sumatra. We encouraged her to use the hospital coffin almost 10 kilometers through the shallower puddles, until finally getting a vehicle towards the border," said Captain Riosi.

After a long journey that took almost one day and one night, with a combination of evacuation using emergency rafts, push coffins, boats, and land vehicles, the group arrived at the Putri Bidari Hospital, Pangkalan Brandan, on December 1, 2025.

At the hospital, pregnant women immediately received medical treatment and underwent a cesarean delivery. Captain Riosi ensured that the delivery process went smoothly and the mother and baby were safe and healthy.

"Alhamdulillah, the mother and baby were successfully rescued and are now back home in good health," he said.

This evacuation action is part of the TNI's involvement in handling emergency disasters in Aceh Tamiang, as well as showing the role of soldiers in helping the community in the midst of natural disasters.
