BANGKALAN - Culture Minister Fadli Zon reviewed the Cakraningrat Bangkalan Museum, Madura, East Java, Monday (22/12), and emphasized the importance of strengthening the historical narrative and transforming the display system so that the museum is more alive and relevant to the public, especially the younger generation.
The museum, which was inaugurated on March 13, 2008, stores the remains of the history of Prince Cakraningrat, a central figure in the journey of Madura. Fadli assessed that museums should not stop being a storage space for collections, but must become a center for education and strengthening cultural identity. "I see this museum as rich in information. The collection is diverse and many heirlooms are of historical value," said Fadli.
The Cakraningrat Bangkalan Museum displays batik textiles, musical instruments, traditional cooking utensils, means of transportation, weapons, and manuscripts. According to Fadli, the quality of the collection needs to be balanced with a strong presentation through a clear, continuous storyline, as well as digital technology support to be more interactive and communicative.
"From the collection, it's amazing. It's just how to exhibit it so that each object can tell a story," he said.
Fadli also encouraged cross-sector collaboration - central and local governments, the private sector, universities, and researchers - for the development of museums. He assessed that it was important to expand the exhibition space so that the presentation of the collection was more representative.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture plans to accelerate the registration and designation of cultural heritage in Bangkalan, including through strengthening the role of the Cultural Heritage Expert Team. The local government is also asked to gather cross-disciplinary expertise, such as archaeology, history, anthropology, and architecture, to strengthen the narrative of each object.
The review was also attended by Bangkalan Regent Lukman Hakim, General Chairman of the Indonesian Museum Association Putu Supadma Rudana, Head of BPK Region XI East Java Endah Budi Heryani, and elements of Forkopimda.
The Ministry of Culture emphasized that the Cakraningrat Bangkalan Museum is expected to develop as a center for learning about Madura history as well as an adaptive and interesting cultural destination for the younger generation.
