JAKARTA - PKB DPP Chairman Daniel Johan responded to the recommendation of the Golkar Party's Rapimnas I that the regional head election (pilkada) be through the DPRD.
He reminded that the discourse was an old idea of the PKB General Chair, Muhaimin Iskandar, alias Cak Imin, even since the 2024 Pilkada.
"Yes, this is an old idea from Cak Imin, it was proposed by PKB, even before the last election," Daniel Johan told reporters, Monday, December 22.
According to him, the Pilkada through the DPRD will put pressure on the very high political costs so that it is expected to reduce corruption cases involving regional heads.
Moreover, in the last two months, there have been four regional heads who have been caught in the KPK's hand-catching operation (OTT).
"This system change will suppress cases of corruption by regional heads," said the DPR member from West Kalimantan I.
Previously, the 2025 I National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Golkar Party produced a number of recommendations, one of which was that the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) was chosen through the Regional Representative Council (DPRD).
Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia said the recommendation was conveyed as a form of implementation of people's sovereignty, with emphasis on public involvement and participation in the implementation process.
"Golkar Party proposes the Regional Head Election through the Regional Representative Council," said Bahlil, Sunday, December 21.
The proposal was also conveyed by the Chairman of the PKB, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) in front of President Prabowo Subianto at the 27th anniversary of the PKB at the Jakarta Convention Center on July 23, 2025.
Cak Imin proposed two patterns in the election of regional heads. The first pattern, the governor becomes the representative of the central government in the area directly appointed by the president.
The second pattern, the head of the regional level of regent or mayor is chosen by the people through the district and city DPRD.
The Coordinating Minister for Social Empowerment believes that changing the election system will create a conducive climate for accelerating national development.
According to Cak Imin, the direct election costs irrational costs and makes the local government still dependent on the central government in all aspects, not yet independent or autonomous.
